  1. The ‘live’ 1978 concert is a wonder to behold and, of course, hear. Some iconoclastic idiots will point to a few (very few) imperfect notes and be critical of Bream’s technique, but the technical skill deployed in the concert, which enables supreme musicianship (marvellous legato and tonal variety etc.) of this kind is matched by very few artists. The tempi at which his skill is deployed in the Villa-Lobos ‘Preludes’ and pieces by Albeniz but, above all, in the Britten ‘Nocturnal’ should impress even the most stupid critics. The great artistry is there for all to enjoy, thanks to the BBC recording (and to Andrea Aguzzi for posting it.
