Review of Granados, Piazzolla, Scarlatti, Ginastera, Mompou by Duo Resonances Frédérique Luzy & Pierre Bibau , Calliope Records 2013
Bravi . Really good these two classical guitarists French Frédérique Luzy and Pierre Bibault , aka Duo Resonances , already compelling their first musical work dedicated to the music of Granados, Piazzolla, Scarlatti, Ginastera, Mompou .
Their main features seem to be: great technique , great harmony and especially the ability to generate a continuous really magnificent “voltage” listening“ to the music they play.
The repertoire chosen for this recital is particularly beautiful and interesting, but what struck me most was the substantial ” uniformity” stylistic interpretation. What I mean to say, regardless of the author and song performed by Frédérique Luzy and Pierre Bibault show a sort of .. hunger for music , a kind of inner tension that results in extremely challenging and exciting interpretations . You can not divert your attention from their guitars, It always remains on hold, with suspended breath waiting for the next step , the next notes, to find out how their two guitars intertwine with each other in a arabesque thin , iridescent and intricate synthesis.
Registration is particularly warm and smart , with a good performance that stands out even listening to mp3 , something that is rarely felt . The feeling is that of a musical project for long kept and cuddled up to the perfect implementation.
A very nice surprise. I’m sure that watching them playing live could even be more exciting !
