To transcribe a music, to allocate a composition into a sonic solution different from the original one, not necessarily means to create something else, but to realize a real parallel musical literature, according to which is a technique, or a form of art, which dates back in time. There are instruments, such as guitar, lute, harp or vihuela, that in some particular periods of their musical history have adopted transcriptions as a way to enrich their not so big repertoire.
The program of the cd Sacred Arias & Chorals played by Bach Guitar Duo, entirely derived from different instrumental and vocal sources, offers new interesting curiosities and ideas inside a strong tradition for transcribed music. Their two guitars bring rich tonal and expressive features, and the choice to open the musical extension through the use of a quatrain guitar wards, at least in part, the inevitable downsizing of the musical material. For exquisitely idiomatic reasons tonalities had to be changed often, to find the most functional cantabile polyphoniclines and the melodic parts have been adapted using a practice taken by lute and vihuela’s tablatures.
What has been really preserved is the spirit of the compositions that, using the sensitive direct contact of the fingers on strings, gets a new and interesting sound dimension.
