Review of “Embarrassing music for erogenous zones” by Carlito’s Porno Trio, 2017

How many styles can be condensed into a single piece of music? And in one record? Is it an idle questions? I don’t think so, in fact these questions identify a precise musical aesthetic, a post-modernist aesthetic, where all genres are admitted, all possibilities are manageable and where irony and musical virtuosity go comfortably in arm togheter.
It’s the case of this excellent cd titled in a vaguely Zappa’s way “Embarrassing music for erogenous zones” played by a trio, always vaguely winking to extra-musical activities, Carlito’s Porno Trio, where to play, however, there are “only” Alessandro Notari on guitar and Fabrizio Ravasi on drums, and where it is therefore legitimate to ask oneself the creative and artistic role of their inflatable doll.
Lots of questions for a slyly irresistible record, where brilliant titles like “The pussy blender is on the dance floor”, “Nerds would marry a porstar” are accompanied by musical forms with very fast changes of time, clever mixes of very different musical styles , a fun and healthy irony and a lot … well great … great musical skill. Be careful, because Notari and Ravasi have nothing to envy or to regret compared to groups and musicians that of this extreme aesthetic, of this cultural helzapoppin have made their stylistic and formal banner, I’m talking about groups like King Krimson, Naked City and of course the uncle of this happily dazzling and at the same time damn serious aesthetic, Frank Zappa. The Carlito’s Porno Trio are champions of sympathy, irony and musical intelligence, they deserve more visibility and attention, listen to their music!
