Since gaining note in the ’80s as part of Austrian avant-rockers Maische, Christian Fennesz has become a key figure in the electronic world. Drawing inspiration from techno and Editions Mego, he melds computers with his own favored instrument, the guitar. His work has inspired IDM producers and led to collaborations with heavyweights of the experimental world like Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Sylvian and Mike Patton.
In his lecture at the 2008 Red Bull Music Academy, he talks about his love of improvisation and loathing of rehearsals, why he never listens to his old records and why you can’t beat a great melody.
