Dear friends

Covid-19 is dangerously impacting the social-economic category of musicians. No concerts, poor political and social consideration, uncertain earnings. As a consequence, an ever-growing number of musicians, especially those from the experimental area, are trying to promote their music on BandCamp in digital format only. It is increasingly difficult for me to follow and review this incredible flow of music. I therefore decided to open this section on my blog Neuguitars where I propose music in digital format that I consider particularly interesting and worthy of attention. I hope you like it. Let’s support musicians. They need it.

A Love Supreme
This project was started in 2017 by Gunnar Backman and me and only by now it’s been completed. It’s not that the project has occupied all the time for three years, but as usual, something else that is prioritized at the moment emerges.
All arrangements are made in Ableton Live. I have not slavishly used Coltrane’s music but have taken the liberty to change quite a lot. The feeling of the music as a single long suite is not here but the songs are more like stand-alone objects. I think I had that intention in the beginning but I let go of that idea.
The original is always better and I have never had the ambition to “improve” the music that Coltrane wrote 56 years ago. A Love Supreme is an album that has meant a lot to me as an improvisational musician and this is my contribution to pay tribute to my hero John Coltrane.

A Love Supreme
Detta projekt påbörjades 2017 av Gunnar Backman och mig och först nu har det blivit klart. Det är inte så att detta projekt upptagit all tid i tre års tid utan det är väl som vanligt, att det dyker upp annat som prioriteras för tillfället.
Alla arrangemang är gjorda i Ableton Live. Jag har inte slaviskt använt mig av Coltrane’s musik utan har tagit mig friheten att ändra på rätt mycket. Känslan av musiken som en enda lång svit finns inte här utan låtarna är mer som fristående objekt. Hade väl den intentionen i början skulle jag tro men släppte den idén.
Originalet är ju alltid bättre och jag har aldrig haft ambitionen att ”bättra på” musiken som Coltrane skrev för 56 år sedan. A Love Supreme är en skiva som betytt otroligt mycket för mig som improvisationsmusiker och detta är mitt bidrag till att hylla min hjälte John Coltrane.

An album I listened to a lot in my youth.
It’s a privilege to able to contribute in some form
to these compositions that meant so much for the music
both at the time and the times to come.
Without hearing the original music I might have ended up in a different place
musically and otherwise.
