Covid-19 is dangerously impacting the social-economic category of musicians. No concerts, poor political and social consideration, uncertain earnings. As a consequence, an ever-growing number of musicians, especially those from the experimental area, are trying to promote their music on BandCamp in digital format only. It is increasingly difficult for me to follow and review this incredible flow of music. I therefore decided to open this section on my blog Neuguitars where I propose music in digital format that I consider particularly interesting and worthy of attention. I hope you like it. Let’s support musicians. They need it.
BOBBY LEE RODGERS AND THE 5TH PYRAMID by BOBBY LEE RODGERS AND THE 5TH PYRAMID, Long Song Records, 2020 on #neuguitars #blog
“Bobby Lee Rodgers and the 5th Pyramid” is the new self-titled project by BLR, uniting his talent for highly versatile and cool guitar playing and smart and classy songwriting with a bunch of seasoned and experienced players, rooted in jazz, roots and improvised music.
The line-up features the not-so-common presence of vibraphone and violin, giving it all an extra exotic acoustic mix of sixties parties music and vintage dancing vibe.
The overall mood flies among funkyfied versions of some of Rodgers’ classics and a couple of extraordinary explorative ballads, evoking old Van Morrisonesque atmospheres, and some latin moods too.
Such an unusual mix is made even better and more exciting by the fact that almost 100% of the music has been cut live in the studio.
The in-your-face energy is pure joy, and makes you sing and dance and be emotional, depending on the tunes.
“BLR and the 5th Pyramid” is a great beautiful feel-good party record, with brain and heart. Play it loud and you won’t be disappointed!
