In memory of John Russell (1954-2021)
“In March 2016 John Russell invited me to play solo at the Vortex in London, for a Mopomoso concert. It was a great experience for me… John has always been one of my favorite guitarists. The next day I went to his house and we spent many hours talking about music and then John took his Radiotone guitar, lent me his Epiphone and we started playing. I had a tape recorder with me and I was ready to record. And we were very happy with our performance and the interplay that was created between us. The project for a larger duo album unfortunately ended due to John’s passing. I have decided, with the kind permission of John’s wife, Joanna, to release the recording of that, for me, magical afternoon. 15 minutes of pure free improvisation to make available to those who love John’s music, an unprecedented testimony of John’s brilliant way of playing and of his very high human and artistic depth”.
